Williams Gas Pipeline
Acoustical retrofit for gas compressor buildings

General Description:
The lube oil cooler and exhaust stacks were causing particular noise problems at two existing compressor stations for Williams Gas Pipeline - Transco. ATCO Noise Management provided a unique system at each station to silence the lube oil cooler intake and discharge but did not reduce the air flow. The existing air flow had to be maintained to cool the engines and compressors.

Noise from the lube oil cooler was lowered with a pressure drop of only 0.016 inches W.G. (Water Gauge)- well within the allowable level. The lube oil pipes were isolated to stop vibration from radiating through the structure. Inserting silencing baffles treated the exhaust stack. By treating the original stack instead of replacing it, the client realized a considerable cost saving. As well, ATCO Noise Management's Type B acoustical wall was applied to certain existing wall sections to reduce the amount of noise transmitted into the surrounding environment. All acoustical work was done to comply with FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) regulations.

Client:
Williams Gas Pipeline - Transco
Houston, Texas

Project Locations:
Monroe, Georgia (Station 125)
Rockford, Alabama (Station 105)

Technical Information:
