Description :
Owned by FPL Group, and operated by Florida Light & Power, the Manatee Power Plant was originally established in the 1970s. At the time, planners set aside a 9,500 acre site to provide for expansion purposes.
Initiated in 2003 by Florida Light & Power, the $600 million Manatee Power Plant addition is one component of a larger expansion plan. The Manatee Phase 1 expansion, completed in mid-2005, added a new natural gas-fired 1100 megawatt combined-cycle generating unit.

Performance Targets :
The far field target was 60 dBA at 122 meters in all directions. Sound pressure levels were not to exceed 85 dBA at 3 ft from the enclosure and 5 ft above pedestal level.
