Safety

At ATCO Structures & Logistics the safety and protection of our employees, company property, and the community and surrounding environment are paramount. We strive to ensure a safe and hazard-free work place by minimizing risk from the materials, manufacturing and construction of our products.

ATCO developed safety programs that comply with all applicable laws and regulations or institution appropriate standards when laws or regulations either are not adequate or, worse, do not exist.

Our Noise Management™ team's commitment to the highest practical safety standards has resulted in its own impeccable safety record with only two lost time incidents since our inception in 1991. As ATCO Noise Management, we also achieved over one million safe man-hours of labor and 2008 power plant of the year runner-up during the $428 million High Bridge Energy Combined Cycle Project, which accounted for 100,000 of those hours.

Rated the top .5 per cent of the safest companies in Alberta, ATCO Noise Management had a disability injury rating of 40 per cent lower than the industry's average. We also have had no outstanding compliance orders under Alberta's Occupational Health and Safety Act in connection with any incident investigated by Alberta Employment and Immigration during the past two years among meeting other high standards.

In 2007, we received a congratulatory letter from OPTI Canada for the execution and attention to safety in the design, supply and installation of noise-reducing acoustical design features on the Pressure Swing Absorption, Soot Cake and Hydrocracker buildings on OPTI Canada's Oil Sands site in Alberta. We also have a Certificate of Recognition (COR) from the Canadian Home Builders' Association.

Other ATCO Noise Management awards included:

  • The 2008 "Minnesota Star" Safety award presented by the Minnesota Governor for the High Bridge Energy Combined Cycle Project by Xcel - a co-generation plant that sits along the banks of the Mississippi River and only 800 feet away from a residential community.

  • The 2007 and 2008 Work Safe Alberta's Best Safety Performer Award. An award given to companies who among other requirements, have no OHS Act violations from the previous two years and have no disabling injuries in the most recent 60 consecutive person years of employment. The 2007 award was given to fewer that 700 of 154,000 companies, less than half a percent.

The safety awards, statistics and information for the new company, ATCO Structures & Logistics are currently being integrated.
